Analysis of two Rhetorical Strategies
Kathleen Parker in the article, "The nastier Donald Trump gets, the more some people like him," claim was that Donald Trump is an obnoxious person and he doesn't care about what he says and how it makes others feel. The purpose of this article is to point out how Donald Trump is very mean and cruel and people still like him. The targeted audience in this article is people who actually like Donald Trump, because they would disagree with everything the article says. It is targeted towards them because she explains why they still support him. This article is effective in using sarcasm and verbal irony to convince the supporters of Donald Trump that he is mean and cruel. The rhetorical strategy sarcasm was used throughout the whole article. The author used sarcasm to point out the foolishness of Donald Trump and how he is an egotistical narcissist. The rhetorical strategy verbal irony went hand in hand with sarcasm, because the author was saying stuff she really didn't mean; she actually meant the opposite of it. I agree with the author, because some of the stuff Donald Trump says is outrageous and I don't understand why people still support him, when he is mean to them also. |
